Three Years Ago Today Star Wars The Clone Wars Was Cancelled

On this day three years ago, LucasFilm announced their "new direction for LucasFilm animation" and cancelled Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  Their announcement stated that "LucasFilm has decided to pursue a new direction in animated programming," that "we feel the time has come to wind down the series," and that "fans can soon find this bonus content."

Two years ago on March 7, 2014, the "bonus content" was released on Netflix as "The Lost Missions."  These 13 episodes featured some of the best episodes of the series, and showed how the quality of the animation and storytelling continued to improve as the series went along.

Over the past two years via The Clone Wars Legacy, LucasFilm has released twenty more episodes in various formats.  Eight episodes have been released as story reels, via StarWars.com.  Four episodes were adapted into the comic mini-series "Star Wars: Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir."  Eight episodes were adapted into the novel "Star Wars: Dark Disciple."

There are still dozens of stoires that remain untold.  See the recent post "Approximately 36 Clone Wars Stories Remain Untold" for more details.

Continue to let Disney and LucasFilm know that there is an interest and a demand for these stories!  Watch the series on Netflix or buy DVDs and Blurays.  Send your letters, emails, tweets and comments to Disney and LucasFilm.

Thanks again to Jimmy Mac for being the first to sound the alarm.  Thanks to Rebel Force Radio, Jimmy Mac and Jason Swank, for the episode, "RebelForce Radio: Special Report - Save The Clone Wars" that was released on this day three years ago.

Save The Clone Wars: Two Years Later

It has been two years, since LucasFilm announced the end of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and that they would release "bonus content."

In that aftermath of this decision, the #SaveTheCloneWars website, Facebook page and twitter account were established on March 14, 2013.  Thanks again the thousands Clone Wars fans who have supported the campaign.  The Facebook page has over 10,000 likes, and twitter account.has over 2,300 followers.

In the last two years, we have gotten a lot content, from this cancelled animated series.  After almost a year of waiting, in March 2014, Star Wars: The Clone Wars "The Lost Missions" which consisted of thirteen fully animated episodes, were initially released on Netflix.  "The Lost Missions" were later released on DVD and Blu-ray, on November 11, 2014.

From May to August of 2014, the four issues of Star Wars: Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir comic were released.  These comics were adaptation of unfinished episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  The trade paperback collection of the Star Wars: Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir was released on October 1, 2014.

In September of 2014, the The Clone Wars Legacy was announced, and four The Crystal Crisis on Utapau Story Reels were released at Star Wars.com.  These story reels were later released a bonus feature on the DVD and Blu-ray releases of "The Lost Missions."

Dark Disciple, the Asajj Ventress & Quinlan Vos novel, written by Christie Golden, is based on unfinished episodes of  Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  The novel is available for pre-order at Amazon, and it is scheduled for release by Del Rey on July 7, 2015 in the U.S.

What is the future of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and its characters?

Clone Wars writer Brent Friedman took to Twitter in May 2014.  We covered the tweets in the article, "Brent Friedman Shares Details on Clone Wars Seasons 6 to 8."  Recently, mentions of the four episode story arc entitled "The Bad Batch" that would feature the return of Clone Trooper Echo have popped up again.  For more info, check out the Star Wars Underworld article.

As recently, as yesterday's episode of Rebel Force Radio, information continues to come out about the unfinished episodes from season six and seven.  Filoni mentions two Clone Wars arcs that were shot that feature Ahsoka's continued story, and he mentions showing these arcs to his Rebels team.  When asked if more episodes of The Clone Wars would be released, he said that, if so, it would be like the Utapau story reels.  He also reveals, in the interview, that there will be "very exciting Clone Wars things" at Star Wars Celebration that is "all motivated by the fans staying so persistent."  Perhaps, some of these unfinished episodes will be shown at Celebration, or perhaps, an announcement will be made about a future release at StarWars.com.

In addition to these stories, a very popular Clone Wars character returned at the end of season one of Star Wars Rebels, and although the character design is quite different, Ahsoka Lives!  Recently, Dave Filoni talked with USA Today about Ahsoka.
In the article "A Jedi returns in 'Star Wars Rebels' finale" Brian Truitt wrote, "When Clone Wars ended last year, Filoni still had 12 episodes of stories that explored Ahsoka's history and what happened to her after leaving the Jedi order when she was around age 16 — many of them were worked on with George Lucas while he was still heavily involved in the Star Wars universe."
In an interview with Eric Goldman from IGN, Filoni also recently stated the following.
"But there are things happening in [Star Wars Rebels] Season 2 where I’ve thrown a line here and a line there that I know will land with the fans, and they’ll be like, “What is she talking about? What is that referencing?” I think it will drive them insane with curiosity, in the best way possible. People will start to piece it all together and then hopefully, I can one day tell these kind of stories that I want to. I myself am curious at what medium it will be in at the end of the day. I don’t know."   Read More:  (Star Wars Rebels Co-Creator on Season 1's Big Death and Big Return and Where Season 2 Will Go)
There are still stories to be told, and Dave Filoni wants to tell them.  Let's continue to let Disney and LucasFilm know that there is an interest and a demand for these stories!

Also, thanks once again to Jimmy Mac from Rebel Force Radio for sounding the alarm and being the first to encourage Clone Wars fans to contact Disney and LucasFilm and ask them to #SaveTheCloneWars.

There are still two more seasons of stories that have been written and have not been released.  There is still Star Wars: The Clone Wars that needs to be saved.  Pre-order now to show Disney and LucasFilm the demand there is for this series.

Since "The Lost Missions" debuted on Netflix, LucasFilm has released most of the 2nd half of season 6, in the form of the Darth Maul comics "Star Wars: Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir", the four Crystal Crisis on Utapau Story Reels on StarWars.com, and the upcoming Asajj Ventress novel "Dark Disciple" coming July 2015. Dave Filoni Speaks with EW about Lost Missions

Today, EW posted an interview with Dave Filoni, "'Clone Wars' director Q&A: Final episodes answer big 'Star Wars' questions."

We have included two excerpts below be sure to read the full story at EW for more information.

One highlight from the interview is when Filoni was asked if these episode are the ending.
"So does the show have an ending? Or is 13 where the production basically stopped?
Filoni: One of the reasons I was okay with us ending when we did and production shifting from Clone Wars to Rebels is I liked the idea of having this Yoda arc available to us because I felt like this was a great place to have an ending if it’s going to end. There’s been so many threads throughout the five seasons, if you were to try and wrap them all up each one would be its own big episode. Here we have two story acts within this the 13 that have a strong connection to the franchise, they’re very important to understanding the overall saga. They’re [creator George Lucas'] last statement about Yoda and The Force and how things fit together. If you’re a die-hard fan, they’re absolutely must-watch story content. As I think fans realized, this wasn’t just fun storytelling in the Star Wars universe. These were very much George Lucas’ stories and he felt they were as important as his other work."
Another highlight from the interview is when Filoni was asked about the possibility of a continuation of the stories of The Clone Wars.
"So is this firmly It? No chance of any additional content, such as a two-hour special or something, to wrap up some more story threads?
Filoni: I always think of Yoda in these moments — the future is always in motion. Projects you think are no-brainers stall, and other things see the light of day. You never count anything out. I know the stories that are untold. I think they’re great. I’d love to see them told in some medium, some how. I’ve become a protector of those stories. [Lucasfilm president] Kathleen Kennedy understands the value of the stories we were going to tell. I’m sure we’ll find a way to find root for them in some manner in the future. I hope to be around for a long time."

Two Clips from The Lost Missions

Star Wars: The Clone Wars "The Lost Missions" and the rest of the Clone Wars saga will debut on Netflix on March 7th at 12:01 am PST.  This week a few preview clips have been released thus far.

Yesterday, the Star Wars YouTube officially released the Yoda clip that was first seen last May at Star Wars Weekends at Disney World.  This video is embedded below.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions - "Voices"
In this special preview clip from "Voices" from Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- The Lost Missions, Yoda begins a secret quest with a little help from a friend.

As the clip opens, Yoda is in a medical chamber, prescribed bed rest. Visited by Anakin Skywalker, Yoda tells the young Jedi that he needs assistance with something. "Help me to escape," Yoda asks. When Anakin says that Yoda is not in prison, and thus does not need to escape, Yoda is not so sure. Seeing the guards in his room, Yoda says, "Already, all around us the cage may be. A journey I must make. Alone." Anakin warns that the Council will not like this, to which the 900-year-old Jedi says that that is why he needs his help -- it's Anakin's natural creativity and spontaneity that sets him apart.

Yoda and Anakin leave the room and meet up with Artoo in a nearby hangar. Anakin commands his droid to get Yoda to a starship and get him off Coruscant. When Mace Windu and other Jedi reach the hangar, they demand to know where Yoda is headed and what Anakin has done. "Hey," Anakin replies, "for once, none of this was my idea." Yoda reaches a hyperdrive docking ring in space, makes the jump to lightspeed, and is away on his journey.

Watch "Voices" and every episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Netflix beginning March 7.
Today, USA Today released another clip from The Lost Missions in the post, "Exclusive clip: Clones come to Kamino in 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars'".

This new clip features Captain Rex, Fives and Shaak Ti on Kamino as the investigation continues into why Tups killed the Jedi as seen in the first "bonus content" trailer from March 11, 2013.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Lost Missions?

Supposedly news about the bonus content and a trailer for ther material was shown in Warsaw today. This was first reported at http://www.star-wars.pl/News/17527, (translated version), and the news spread quickly today among Star Wars news sites such Star Wars Underworld.

If the information is accurate, the remaining episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be subtitled the "Lost Missions" and will air on Disney XD early next year.  At least one part of this information has already been debunked by LucasFilm's Pablo Hidalgo, but that could also lend more credence to the other information listed below, since it was not a complete denial.
Please remember the Google translation below of the information from the Polish website may contain spoilers, if the information is accurate.
It was revealed that the sixth season will wear the subtitle "The Lost Missions" and will consist of 10 episodes that will be shown on the channel Disney XD in 2014. The first trailer sums up all five seasons, and announced at the end of another. The second concern only the latest episodes and was very similar to the first, but contained several new scenes. Sorry, not allowed to record or take pictures, because those who were not participants in the meeting, they will have to settle for bullet point description. Before you start reading, we want to draw your attention to two things: first, there are a lot of spoilers, so if you do not want to spoil the surprise itself - not the text reveals. Secondly, although the trailer is shown twice, it still was not possible to memorize or learn anything, as it happens in the trailers, they were very quick scene, taken out of context, because in the final episode, you may find that everything is different. (Spoiler):
  • Trailer began by showing a dark, damp fog covered the planet - it was accompanied by the voice of Qui-Gon, saying: "You must go to the Dagobah (?)., Where you will find your answers." I landed there Yoda.

  • Many loose scenes related to a ripe old master: in one of them walked among red, dust-covered rocks (Korriban?), The second was in a dark building and ran up to him being a bit reminiscent of the Balrog from "Lord of the Rings" - consisted of smoke and fire , in another fight on the platform of a hooded figure, equipped with a red lightsaber, another presented him how to jump the airborne platforms, leading to what looked like a huge tree, located on the background of the cloudy, yellow sky, and finally, you will see Yoda was like talking with a group of representatives of a new breed - were round, white and maroon faces and golden eyes.

  • Oppo Rancisis was present at the meeting of the Jedi Council.

  • Members of the steel circle over Yoda and bent over him.

  • One scene showed a lot of ghosts (or perhaps invisible) Jedi, taking part in the battle.

  • Certainly back on Kamino - were aiwhy, cadets in helmets, learners in front of computers, Shaak Ti also returns. Clone of another forerunner - the one who killed one of the sisters of the Jedi - thrashing about on the bed, tied to the belt, and the voices in the background said that "does not remember the day it happened." In the longer terms, medical droid came into fives, calling it "CT-5555", which did not like the man who pointed out to him that the clones have names and it is important for them.

  • Sidious contacted holographically with Lama Su and other Kaminoaninem, saying: "The truth of order 66 can not come to light."

  • Mother Talzin fired its green rays, and later fought with someone with a sword with a blue blade (perhaps it was Obi-Wan).

  • Showing the new machine Separatist - a bit like aqua droids episode of inkwells, but painted with red paint.

  • Count Dooku will fight with two species of blue swords - they were probably Skywalker and Kenobi.

  • Padme stood before the congregation Muunów, and one of them shouted: "You're under arrest!" It also shows some new shots of the chase Emba on the ice planet.

  • Mace Windu fought with giant robots.

  • Shown computer hologram displaying the silhouette of a man with black hair in a Jedi robe - was very similar to Sifo-Dyas comic book "Eyes of the revolution."
